ROUND 4 RECAP

The inclement weather last week forced the cancellation of the second day’s play of the 1st Grade game against West Torrens at Price Memorial Oval. Sturt were facing the task of chasing 381. Alex Gregory, 4 for 74 and Stuart Claring-Bould, 2 for 71 were the best of the Sturt bowlers.

 

The 2nd Grade team batted first at Henley Grange Memorial Oval and set West Torrens 300 to win the match. Euan Woods made an outstanding 141 off 178 balls. Sam Mattey (30 off 155 balls) batted solidly with Euan and they shared a 138 run partnership. Charlie Parker (54) and Kosta Sinodinos (33 no) put on 77 for the eighth wicket. After a delayed start on week 2, the West Torrens innings got under way and a steady flow of wickets saw them all out for 197 after 55 overs. Charlie Parker took 5 for 62 off 16 overs and Fraser Durham took 2 for 9 off 6 accurate overs. The 2nd Grade team have now won 3 out of 4 matches and are sitting third on the ladder.

 

The 3rd Grade match was abandoned with West Torrens all out for 137 on day 1 and Sturt 3 for 57 at stumps. Hamish Allan and Nathan Van Eekeren each took 4 wickets.

 

The 4th Grade team completed another outright victory. First innings points were achieved on day 1 with West Torrens all out for 125 and Sturt 1 for 130 at stumps. Lachie Hillis and Andrew Frangoulis each took 4 wickets in the first innings. Sturt’s first innings was completed on day 2 at 5 for 307 declared. Matthew Hayden (52), Daljeet Singh (51) and Jordan Wood (112no) were the major contributors. The Sturt bowlers made easy work of the West Torrens batting in the second innings with West Torrens all out for 64 after 18.5 overs. Sam Dick took 5 for 34 and Andrew Frangoulis took 3 for 10.

 

On Sunday 19th November the 1st Grade team played the SACA Under 19 team at Price Memorial in round 4 of the West End One Day cup. Connor Dudley as the SACA Under 19 captain won the toss and sent Sturt in to bat. Jacob Dick and Brad Davis batted beautifully offering very few chances to the inexperienced bowling line up and completed a 228 run partnership when Jacob was dismissed for 109. Brad continued his outstanding innings and was 175 not out at the completion of the 50 overs with Sturt 2 for 320. Stuart Claring-Bould opened the bowling and with his very first ball had Suraj Rajesh caught at second slip by Alex Gregory. Stuart’s fifth ball  had Connor Dudley also caught at second slip. Charlie Morgan commenced the second over form the northern end and his first ball had Kyle Brazell bowled with a quick yorker. The SACA Under 19 team were then 3 for 0 and were never able to recover from this position. The Under 19 team was finally dismissed for 158 after 31 overs. Uly van Duyker had the pick of the bowling figures with 5 for 45 off 9.2 overs.
