ROUND 3 RECAP

The Senior Men’s teams were up against Northern Districts in Round 3. The 1st Grade was home at Price Memorial. Northerns batted first and at the close of play on day 1 were 8/272. Day 2 Northerns batted on and were all out for 297. The spinners took the majority of the wickets with Ziggy Kulesza with 3 and Tom O’Connell 3. Jacob Dick and Connor Dudley commenced the run chase with Dudley dismissed early for 2. Dick scored at a quick rate with 82 off 87 balls until he was dismissed with the score on 3/143. Brad Davis (42), Thomas Kelly (43) were involved in some good partnerships but it was Ty Watson’s innings of 72 not out that saw the Blues home 6 wickets down.

In a high standard 2nd Grade game Northerns were victorious by 35 runs at Salisbury Oval. Northerns continued batting on the second day and were 9 for 277 when they closed the innings. The wickets were shared around the Sturt bowlers with Fraser Durham the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 44 off 21 overs and Corey Kelly 2 for 59 off 16 overs. Sturt required 278 from 83 overs. The Sturt run chase was always behind the eight ball mainly due to the loss of too many wickets. Too many batters got starts but failed to capitalize on a big score. Corey Kelly scored 65, Max Schlicker 42, Ben Salt 40 not out and Euan Woods 37.

The glamour team, Sturt’s 3rd Grade completed a great victory against Northerns at Unley. At the close of the first day Northerns were all out for 162. Again Darius Wyatt and Hamish Allan were the chief destroyers with Darius taking 4 and Hamish 3. Angus Lewis had the excellent figures of 2 for 35 off 10 overs. A spirited fight back by Northerns saw Sturt 5 for 81 at stumps. The run chase would be left to Hamish Robinson, Sam Teakle and Brodie Whitbourne returning from the 2nd Grade . Fortunately all 3 contributed with Hamish making 26, Sam 47 and Brodie 46 to give the Blues victory.

The result of the weekend belonged to the 4th Grade with an outright victory. Batting first and with only 10 players Sturt completed their first innings 9 down for 295. Daljeet Singh scored 54 from 61 balls, Colby Whitbourne in his first Senior game scored 75 from 68, Alex Senior 69 from 86 and James House 38 from 66 balls. Northerns completed their first innings all out for 83 with Alex Senior taking 4 for 11 and Andrew Frangoulis taking 3 for 9 off 3 overs. Northerns were forced to follow on and were all out for 143 in the second. Frangoulis was again the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 47 off 9 overs.

The LO2 team played Woodville Rechabites (again) at Findon High School. As revealed at the Match presentations on Saturday night  Tom Young bowled well and John Langford played well for Sturt. Sturt were defeated by 4 wickets with 4 overs to bowl.

The 1st Grade Women took on West Torrens at Henley Grange Memorial Oval. West Torrens batted first and scored 4/130 off their allocated overs. Sharni Tansell had the best figures with 2 for 16 off 4 overs. With the loss of key top order wickets Sturt were never in the run chase completing the 20 overs 8 for 112. Emma de Broughe top scored with 32.

The 2nd Grade Women were outclassed by a strong Northern Districts team with Northerns batting first and accumulating 3 for 135 off 20 overs. Sturt were never in the hunt finishing on 6 for 33 after 20 overs. Jasmin Earl held her bat for the innings remaining not out on 8 after 20 overs.
